What you need to know about how we buy our pieces

Jewellery has been around since, well, forever. It’s been a consistent through the ages, surviving world wars and recessions to boot. But, when the world is full of so much glorious jewellery how do we manage to choose our pieces? Well, we sat down with one of our experts from the Rich Diamonds team to give you some exclusive insight into just how we choose our pieces. You’re welcome…

Q: Do we have a certain process for picking our pieces?

A: As a company we keep track of upcoming and on-going trends. As we’ve got regular customers we’re very astute to the more popular pieces that will sell well, as well as making sure we have the timeless classics. Tiffany engagement ring, anyone?

Q: Which gemstone pieces are the most popular?

A: As expected, diamonds are always the biggest sellers. Sapphires, rubies and emeralds, also known as the three primary gemstones, swiftly follow. Understandably there was an increase in Sapphire engagement rings since Princess Diana’s engagement to Prince Charles and then the exquisite ring being passed down to the Duchess of Cambridge during her engagement to Prince William.

Q: How do we value our pieces?

A: We value items depending on the overall condition of the item and whether it comes with the box and documentation from the brand themselves. The age of the piece is also taken into account, meaning some of our rarest pieces obviously come at a higher value.

Q: Which of the pieces are a favourite amongst our customers?

A: Engagement rings have always been the most popular, but we have also noticed a love of the Alhambra collection by Van Cleef & Arpels. And, of course, we have a passion for the products that we design in-house.

Over the last few years we’ve found that clients have literally fallen in love with the Cartier Love Collection all over again. We get a lot of requests for this collection in particular, especially the bracelets.

Q: Do we work with customers on specific requests?

A: Always. For the amount of money clients spend with us they are always after the perfect item/gift and therefore have requests of which we try our hardest to meet. The most popular request we receive is for engagement rings, as obviously an engagement ring is a very intimate gift. We love that we’re able to help customers choose their perfect engagement ring that’ll make their other half (hopefully!) say yes.

Q: Can a customer bring in a piece to the shop that they wish to sell, or is there a certain process?

A: Clients are encouraged to bring jewellery to the shop on New Bond Street that they wish to sell. This way the buyers can see the pieces in the gallery and examine the piece in person and give an accurate appraisal.
