The Ultimate Emerald Cut Diamond
A magnificent 100-carat diamond is the highlight of Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York today. The flawless emerald cut diamond is set to achieve between $19m (£12.7m) and $25m (£16.7m).
The D colour, internally flawless stone has been described as ‘perfect’ and is welcomed into a group of five elite comparable quality diamonds over 100 carats to ever been sold at auction world-wide.
The remarkable stone originated from a rough diamond weighing over 200 carats, found in South Africa by Debeers. The diamond has been compared to a ‘pool of icy water’ and dubbed the ‘Ultimate Emerald Cut diamond’ after taking the owner over a year to cut, before deeming perfect.
