The Cannes Red Carpet – Get the Look

This month as the French Riviera filled with Hollywood royalty we relished the glamour of The Cannes Film Festival, paying special attention to the red-carpet jewels created by the greats; from Chopard to Lorraine Schwartz.

We’ve poured over hundreds of celebrity images, boasting signature ‘Cannes Couture’ and some serious accessories and are pleased to present the Rich Diamonds answer to our favourite celebrity looks straight from the Cannes red carpet.

It’s all about Chopard.

Chopard became the crowning glory of The Cannes Red Carpet in the 90s, when Caroline Scheufele, Co-President & Artistic Director offered to redesign the Palme d’Or trophy which is awarded to the director of the best film at the annual awards. The offer was accepted and the first Chopard trophy was unveiled in ‘98. This was the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Chopard now releases an annual selection of bespoke jewels specifically for the event. This collection named ‘The Red Carpet Collection’ boasted 69 fresh designs this year and as such has dominated the Cannes Red Carpet Jewellery headlines.

'Pretty Woman' drenched in emeralds

Julia Roberts may be known for her winning smile, but the beautiful emerald she was spotted wearing at Cannes stole the limelight this time. The necklace, a magnificent 52.76 carat emerald, was designed by Chopard.

Here at Rich Diamonds, we have a beautiful 18k yellow gold diamond and emerald set pendant by Tiffany & Co. The necklace consists of a flower motif with an oval cut emerald in the centre dispersing a rich green hue throughout.

We have a classic 18k white gold emerald and diamond line bracelet which will finish the look perfectly.

Welcome the summer into your wardrobe

Colourful jewels illuminated at Cannes this year, with celebrities opting for bright, summer gemstones as their date on the red carpet. Naomi Watts selected a remarkable amethyst statement necklace by Bvlgari to complement her strapless gown.

Brooches are back on trend in 2016 too, so what better way to accompany her fabulous necklace? A beautiful pink sapphire and amethyst floral pendant/brooch from the Hawaii collection by Van Cleef and Arpels.

Our answer to Naomi’s amethyst adornment is a pair of 18k white gold, ruby and diamond earrings from the Chopard Happy Diamonds collection. The square earrings are set with 32 round cut rubies set to the outer edges, surrounding the iconic Chopard signed glass.

Showering in Chopard

Kirsten Dunst celebrated the Chopard jewellery event in true Chopard fashion; she glistened her way down the red carpet complementing her high-neck gown with a pair of simple earrings.

Our unique pair of 18k white gold diamond earrings by Graff fit the bill if you want to get this look. Drop earrings are a big trend for 2016, so get red carpet ready with this dazzling pair.

As with Kirsten’s dress, sometimes a necklace isn’t an option, a simple diamond bracelet, however, can complete the perfect partnership. We have a lovely 18k white gold diamond line bracelet from the Cartier Lanieres collection.

Leave a trail of diamonds

Blake Lively wowed this year’s Cannes Film Festival, with a flawless array of fashion statements. Despite her growing baby bump, all of her red carpet looks have been charming, but this was our favourite.

The gleaming dress was paired with a hand full of diamonds. We have found the perfect diamond for you to get your hands on… literally. It’s a fabulous diamond ring in platinum by Boodles.  Set to the centre with an oval cut diamond, the ring showcases diamonds at their utmost beauty.

Although the ring speaks for itself, a necklace to match will add a little extra to the already stunning look. Our 18k white gold pendant is set in the centre with a pear cut diamond and complementing the central stone is a halo of round brilliant cut diamonds, well matched in colour and clarity.

Emerald Overload

Emeralds made a statement at Cannes this year, with most stars allowing their jewellery to do all the talking. Following in Julia Roberts stylish footsteps, Julianne Moore chose a simple black dress with wowing emeralds.

While Julianne Moore often picks emeralds, these gems were unique in that they are the first sustainable, ecological and humanely mined emeralds presented by Chopard. This is a direct result of a meeting between Caroline Scheufele of Chopard and Livia Firth (Colin Firth’s wife) who challenged Chopard to come up with a ‘Green-Carpet’ collection bringing ethically sourced gems to the forefront. Chopard is now at the front line of reviewing mining and trading standards within the jewellery industry.

Almost a perfect match to the original, we have this pair of 18k white gold emerald and diamond drop earrings. Each earring is comprised of a single oval cut diamond with a round brilliant cut diamond halo and three diamonds suspending to a square cut emerald with a diamond set halo surround.

Put your twist on the look by adding an 18k white gold emerald and diamond dress ring. The ring is set to the centre with a 1.83ct cabochon cut emerald complemented by ten oval cut diamonds each individually claw set around the outer edge.

These are just a mere few of our favourite looks from the Cannes red carpet, from the wide range of jaw-dropping looks showcased this year. At Rich Diamonds, we pride ourselves in offering a range of high-status statement pieces so you can feel like a star.
