The Best Events To Come In 2020
We’re already waving goodbye to 2019 and looking ahead to 2020, the start of a brand-new decade and a whole new evolution of style. Though we’re whisking in looks that remind us of the Roaring Twenties, there continue to be classic events that bring high-end jewellery and fashion to the forefront and never fail to impress. Exclusive and a chance to show off some of the most beautiful and creative designs dreamed up by icons of the industry, these events have become synonymous with stunning pieces that quickly cement themselves in pop culture. We’ve collated just a few of the very best events to come in 2020 where the height of fashion and jewellery will be on full display.
92nd Academy Awards
As the biggest night in Hollywood, the race for nominations for this year’s 92nd Academy Awards has already begun to hot-up. With an exclusive guest list, the Oscars have quickly become a night to show off the best and brightest in high-end jewellery. In 2019, Best Actress nominee Lady Gaga arrived wearing the iconic Tiffany Yellow Diamond, only previously worn by Audrey Hepburn, whilst actresses like Glenn Close, Letitia Wright Amy Adams flaunted a selection of vintage and new Cartier jewellery pieces including rings, brooches and a necklace. The Oscars brings jewellery to the forefront and can often make for a defining moment of the night – we all remember Nicole Kidman in Harry Winston, right?
New York Fashion Week
One of the highlights of the fashion calendar, New York Fashion Week remains one of the most innovative places to see new design in both fashion and jewellery. Held twice a year in locations all around the Big Apple, the best and brightest designers from across the globe gather to run catwalks of their latest collections. You’ll see plenty of famous faces and fans at certain runway shows, though the crowning glories are often for the most iconic designers including Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs or the late-night parties like the Harper’s Bazaar Icons party. This is the ultimate place to showcase advances in fashion and jewellery- a place where innovation and risk-taking are not only expected but celebrated.
Ruled over by Vogue’s Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour, The Met Gala is one of the most exclusive and exciting events on New York’s social calendar. Celebrities clamour for invitations and each year, the outfits become crazier and the guest list gets even longer. With guests given a theme at each event to match their outfits to, famous faces experiment with vintage and modern jewellery as part of their overall aesthetic. The 2019 gala, whose theme was Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay ‘Notes on Camp’ featured pieces from a one-of-a-kind Tiffany & Co necklace (Lady Gaga), a Harry Winston original (Jennifer Lopez) and vintage Bvlgari jewellery (Lupita Nyong’o). Modern and vintage designs rub shoulders to create vibrant brilliance at this social event of the season.
Perhaps the most prestigious of all, Paris Fashion Week is the closing event of the fashion seasons and presents some of the world’s best designers in iconic locations across the French city including the Grand Palais and the Carrousel du Louvre. Featuring titans of the fashion industry like Givenchy, Chanel and Dior, PFW runs both ready-to-wear and haute couture shows that often end up being seen on red carpets just months later. Alongside the fashion titans, jewellery makers go all out to impress with new pieces, including from Cartier, Baroqco and vintage jewellers, Chaumet- all of which were spotted at the 2019 Fashion Week.
